Inocente is an intensely personal and vibrant coming of age story about a young artist’s fierce determination to never surrender to the bleakness of her surroundings. At 15, Inocente refuses to let her dream of becoming an artist be deferred by the harsh realities of her life as an undocumented immigrant. Irreverent, flawed and funny, the film’s irrepressible heroine channels her vivid personality into her art. The challenges are staggering, but the hope in Inocente’s story proves that her circumstances cannot define her—her dreams do.
Executive produced by Kean University’s own Dr. Susan MacLaury, Inocente won the Academy Award for Best Documentary (Short Subject) at the 85th Annual Academy Awards on February 24, 2013.  The College of Education, Women's Studies Program and Office of University Relations are thrilled to invite the Kean community to experience this remarkable film.  Tickets are available on a first come first serve basis at the Office of University Relations reception desk (J-230).
