Expertise: Ecology, fire ecology, conservation, the spread and impact of invasive plants in Union County parks

Research summary: Dr. Shebitz studies how local and indigenous cultures use plants as medicines and basketry material in the Pacific Northwest, in the Northeast, and in Costa Rica. She works with local people to restore culturally-significant plants using traditional land management techniques including anthropogenic fire and sustainable harvesting practices.
