Beginning in the spring 2012 semester, the Department of Theatre will offer a new course, entitled iProduction. Led by Ted Sharon, adjunct professor and owner of Venture Productions, LLC, this course is designed to assist the student in creating digital media productions using Apple’s iMovie iOS editing software together with Apple iPods, iPads and iPhones.
As Sharon explained, the planet is immersed in the power of digital media and video is key to the 21st century imagination. A solid foundation in cutting edge video production and a seamless workflow will allow media artists the creative freedom and enhanced marketability to compete in a digitally driven world. "The ability we now have to shoot, edit and upload from the same HD device is a gift.” said Sharon. “I am thrilled to share what I've learned over the past decade as an on-camera actor, producer and editor."
In addition to in-depth classroom discussions and exercises, the course will feature a main screen project and a series of micro-productions. Students will also rehearse and execute scripted interviews, including B-roll footage, titles, voiceovers and music, as well as explore newly released Apps.
All aspects of filmmaking are now in a hand-held device! I wish there had been a course like this when I was a student.” - A.C. Weary, DGA director and independent producer
